Anubha Kakroo Anubha is an Architecture (1992) graduate from the School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi. She also completed a postgraduate degree in Industrial Design (1995) from the same Institute. After graduating, Anubha set up a design consultancy practice, working on Architectural, Interior and Product Design Assignments. Along with this she taught at the School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi in the departments of Architecture and Industrial Design. She was also a regular visiting faculty at the National Institute of Fashion Technology, New Delhi, for their Foundation Programme and also at the Department of Fashion Communication.
Working closely with the corporate sector as a part of her consultancy work, Anubha increasingly felt the need to integrate the two seemingly disparate streams of management and design. To this end, she graduated in Design Management, specializing in Strategy, Innovation and Branding at the Brunel University, London in the year 2005-06 and was awarded a Master’s Degree with distinction for same.
This was further enhanced by the extensive research she undertook on design thinking for which she travelled widely and interacted with global key thinkers of the discipline, including Prof. Michael Kelley at Stanford University and the then fledgling D-School, as well as industry leaders like Mr. Michael Wolff, founder of Wolff Olins, London.
She worked as a Director - Design & Cultural Insight at the Future Brands India Ltd., where her work involved using Design (Thinking and Process) as a proto-resource for Cultural Studies and Insights to make sense of the Indian People and Contexts. Her work included unravelling the culture that is India, how is it changing, and what does that mean in the current economic scenario for businesses already established here or hoping to do so in the near future. Before Future Brands, she worked with the British Council as Head of Programmes for India and Sri Lanka and worked closely with UK offices and other International Organizations. This work led her to interact closely with Social and Creative sectors globally, especially in the UK, and develop an understanding of international operations as well.
Her last assignment was as the Dean at the Faculty of Architecture at DIT University Dehradun, spearheading the development of the Faculty into one of national and international standing. Her chosen mandate was to expand the academic and research footprint of the Faculty and also to explore new ventures for the University to get into.
Having completed a full cycle as a design thinker, from a novice to a practitioner (the last three years at the University being spent in very successfully implementing a design-thought strategy into place), she now implements this process extensively into virgin as well as complex areas and contexts of business, design, culture and life. Currently, Anubha is the Dean of Outreach, Marketing and Corporate Relations at IIAD, New Delhi.
